Get away with murder

If you have the money, the right kind of political connections you can get away with murder. The acquittal of all accused in the murder of Jessica Lal proves this point beyond doubt. Jessica Lal was a model, who stood at a friends bar that fateful night seven years ago. A group of guys asked for drinks after the permitted hours, she made the mistake of going by the book and refused and one of them pulled out a pistol and shot her in front of everyone.

Many people saw that, and to begin with there were people willing to give evidence in the court but by the time the case finally went on trial, no one came forward, the manner in which the Police presented the case, it wasn’t effective enough to nail any one. But then the accused weren’t ordinary people, the prime accused Manu Sharma’s father is a big time politician and Minister in Haryana Government, Vikas Yadav son of mafia don cum politician D.P. Yadav, Yograj Singh father of the famous cricketer Yuvraj Singh. Vikas Yadav incidentally is now involved in another murder case, he shot and then burned his sisters boyfriend. These people make a mockery of the law.

The whole system is so disgusting, it sucks big time, corrupt and inefficient. You can get with anything if you can pull the right strings. This was one of those open and shut cases but still the criminals managed to evade the law. The Police probably bribed, did not carry out proper investigation. The witness either bought off or threatened. Where does the ordinary citizen go for justice. Sometimes I wish there was a group of vigilantes who could send these people to the place they deserve to be.

  • everyone knows...everyone watches from the sidelines...justice denied...subverted...we feel the pain of people who were close to her...BUT...in a few days it'll slip away...off the headlines...out of the papers...it's disgusting...a crying shame...and after a while..everyone forgets...

  • I somehow think that this only happens in developing countries...cos here in Aus not even the PM can get away with murder...I have seen so many rich n famous ppl sent to jail for their crimes...crimes smaller than murder even.

But I know that in Sri Lanka, the rich n the famous easily get away with murder...sickening indeed!

  • it always happens , doesnt it ? itz only in films that these stories have a good and a fair ending

    By Blogger ~*. D E E P A .* ~, at 3:28 AM

  • Hmmmm...anyways the high court has taken suo moto notice of the case and lets see what happens.

    @keshi
Remember when i was there in perth i got away from an incident which wud hv caused some serious problem for a normal person, but i had the privilege of international immunity...:)and i ended up with just a foul mood and the recievers in the local hospital. i don't say i m very proud of that fact, coz like jackal has mentioned, if u can pull the strings right, u can get away with anything, now that doesn't means that i support something like that coz then it wud be a matter of shame for me since i personally belong to the law enforcement fraternity. Fact of the matter is that things move really slow in India, coz like it or not we still follow acts made in 1957, most of the new laws which can be really effective are yet to be ammended as our jerkoffs in the parliament do not hv time to pass those resolutions and suggestions since they r mostly busy boycotting the sessions. And do not forget that every one of us is someway or the other part of the biggest business in the world($1600 billions)i.e corruption, and in large and densely populated country like india, its very difficult to deal with that sort of thing. But on the other hand i feel really sad when i see people from my fraternity selling themselves since ages, coz if they all start performing their duties as per the regulations whichever and whatever they have, nobody can get away even stealing somebody's hanky...

  • It's really really despicable that a person can get away by shooting at someone in a room full of hundreds of people. Makes me feel disillusioned with the entire system.

  • keshi:

it happens less there cozz ppl are earn enuf to lead a dginified life...so there is less corruption

    deepa:

yeah deepa....only if we had those many heros in real life too..but ppl are so scared....i wud rather die once with diginity than die everyday....

    southpaw:

rt southy if the Police is really straight crimes can be brought down significantly..but it sjust not the police which is corrupt.....its the whole system......they are paid poorly....then they need to pay the politicians.....so most of them are left with no choice.....then they have those idiots criminals as MP's/ministers who interfere in there work......first we need to have a law which bars these criminals frm entering in politics...... 11 of the 26 MP's of samaj wadi party are known criminals now what do u expect frm them ????

By Blogger Jackal, at 12:30 PM

  • it happens less there cozz ppl are earn enuf to lead a dginified life...so there is less corruption*** Let me differ again, actually the population is less and the law enforcement agencies hv sufficient staff to deal with them.

first we need to have a law which bars these criminals frm entering in politics***Thats what i said, even the jackasses hv the right to contest in the elections in our country.

its the whole system......they are paid poorly....then they need to pay the politicians***Well i wud put it in this way, whoever decides to join the force knows what the pay structure is gonna be, so if they still go for it, then why complain later and use it as a pretext to take bribe. Secondly like i say from time to time that we ourselves r responsible for the current scenario....why do the new recruits pay hefty amounts to get placed in approriate depts and even during the selection. If taking bribe is a crime, offering bribe is a bigger crime, if convicted, one can be sentenced for 7 yrs of rigorous imprisonment. And same ways when they r placed in the choice of their own, then the first thing in their mind is to make up for that doe which they spent to get there and the show goes on and on and on and on....

  • hey jackal ..

i agree with rajbir .. its our mistake we take it for granted .. for eg. if u want a Drivers licence u pay extra amt to the inspector n get it done sitting at home ... its there at ur door step .. now how we can rectify it ... can we???

i have a client who is into rehabilitation of Slums now i guess this says all ... we had a one-on-one with the liasion officer in that co. his experience is just mind blowing .. in govt. he says right from the peon till the top level all r damnn corrupted .. n if u dont bribe them ur work is just stuck forever at least 2 n half yrs .. but if u bribe them ur work gets done within 6 months ... this is just a snap shot ... anyways we really donno how can we be a non corrupted country ...

its just ppl r greedy n want to earn the extra amt of money ...

damnnn they .. they should be all tortured to death ...

    take care buddy ....

yeah it is indeed disgusting...thankfully the high court has intervened and we have at least some hope tht the culprits wud be brought to justice........

    Southpaw:

its nice to hear directly frm the horse's mouth.....actually there are so many factors responsible and i think this space isn't enuf...so i wud write a new post abt tht and then we can take it up....

    Uttara:

i have been into similar situation as ur client and i know its impossible to get done routine tasks until u pay all those guys there..though there are exceptions ppl who do it without any benefits but those are few........
....hope the super star is shining as brightly as ever : )tcc byee

By Blogger Jackal, at 11:23 AM

  • absolutely - I am disgusted. This is the reason why people have lost faith in the judicial system and prefer to put up with minor crimes rather than seek remedy through a corrupt and inefficient system.
Did you see the film "Virudhdh?"

  • When somebody from my fraternity has already taken up the issue in such length, do i have any chance to say anything further? Its sad to see such things hapenning. You know what jackal since you are a positive debater by this weekend i am gonna come up with a post on something related to this and we shall take it from there...:)

By Blogger Sunita, at 5:18 PM

  • Pathetic, isn't it? Abysmal. Atrocious. Animal. Our judicial system isn't up to the mark. Neither is the government. I wish I came up with a whole new idea sooner than later. Or atleast, someone else did. I've written so much about the judicial policies of the country, that am tired of it. Just conversing about it won't work. And Uttara, just murdering them cold-bloodedly won't work. More will arise. And installing fear in their hearts isn't the best means. But not the worst, either. We have to come up with something radical. Something different. The whole system has to be radically changed for the changes to take effect from the grass roots to the top brass.

By Blogger The Individualist, at 10:41 PM

  • i was not aware of her case. i will check out her story on the net.

but it is a sad thing indeed when some people can get away with murder just because they are well connected. it happens everywehere, actually.
